What is DBT ( Dialectical Behavioral Therapy)?
DBT is based on 4 key Skills Building Components:
Core Mindfulness, Distress Tolerance, Emotion Regulation, and Interpersonal Effectiveness
We work with adolescents (13+) and adults who are challenged with Non-Suicidal Self-Injury (NSSI), suicidal ideations/thoughts, Bipolar Disorder, Borderline Personality Disorder, Depression, and Anxiety. Self injury and suicidal ideation are monitored weekly and safety plans and strategies are developed and adjusted regularly to help you or your loved one stay safe while learning to manage the symptoms, feelings, and behaviors.
DBT skills are taught and practiced in session, and strategized to determine how to apply in your daily environment and within relationships. As skills are introduced and applied to daily life, brief Phone Coaching is implemented, when necessary, to help determine and use the proper skill for the immediate situation.
Treatment may be necessary for 6 months to over a year, based on the severity of symptoms. DBT is an evidenced based, proven effective therapy, and a commitment to ongoing participation is necessary for best results. Sessions are 55 minutes long, and take place weekly.
