My Background
I have a Master’s Degree in Clinical Social Work, and I’m a Licensed Clinical Social Worker, which means I’m licensed by the Department of Health to diagnosis mental illness and provide mental health therapy. I hold Certification in DBT, and I’ve undergone intensive training in personality disorders, specializing in Borderline Personality Disorder. I’m also a clinical hypnotherapist and a Qualified Supervisor for new therapists who are working on obtaining licensure as a Clinical Social Worker.
Outside of providing therapy, a position I have had that stands out is when I worked as a Mental Health Facilitator (MHF) in the school system. I provided DBT to students, mainly those who engaged in non-suicidal self-injury (NSSI). I also educated fellow MHFs, school guidance counselors, faculty and staff in best practices of addressing and working with students who self-injure. This included having an active role in implementing alternative options to Baker Acting (involuntary inpatient treatment) students who self-injured, but were clear on not having suicidal thoughts.
